In recent years we’ve seen the rebirth of fashion from several decades including the 20s and 30s, even the rise and fall of the 80s-come-back.
In 2011 we’re set to do it all again, but this time it’s the 1970s that are taking the catwalks by storm – from boho style to a more sophisticated 70s look, there’s no escaping this massive trend.
This year Magnet has introduced a new retro 70s kitchen range that uses the latest on-trend greys combined with mellow mustards to create an authentic vintage look.
The Orbitz uses the latest curved wall and floor units combined with the sweeping curves of the Apollo Portland Grey worktop. The retro pattern on the unit frontals uses a subtle grey background which contrasts with the bold coloured globes. Stylish clear acrylic handles ensure this cool, retro pattern can be seen at it’s best along side the Studio White kitchen.
Orbitz units can be used an accent with a number of Magnet ranges including Urban Gloss Noir and Cubista Wenge.
HOW TO GET THE 70s LOOK:
- Search vintage shops for retro accessories such as teak bar stools
- Accessorise using crockery with bold, colourful patterns
- Chunky curved fridges in bright colours are great for recreating past eras
- Create an feature wall using hippy-inspired wallpaper
- Invest in 70s-looking appliances, such as food mixers, for an authentic feel

This year we’ve some fantastic new kitchen gadgets – some pretty futuristic ones as well as some lovely traditional ones.
But a new report has listed the top 10 kitchen gadgets – and believe it or not, instead of state of the art stoves or big ovens, people are buying smaller, more specialized accessories.
And as more men step in to the kitchen, one of the most popular gadgets is the meat thermometer – apparently men prefer more meat-heavy recipes when cooking). And the top accessory for women are colourful spatular sets!
So here’s the full list…
- Silicon spatula set (#1 “most wished for” on Amazon US)
- Digital meat thermometer
- Microplane (brand) Grater
- Mandoline
- Kitchen Scale (#8 “most wished for” on Amazon UK)
- Salad Spinner
- Cake Decorating Set (#7 “most wished for” on Amazon UK)
- Bamboo Cutting Boards
- Candy Thermometer
- Apple Peeler
Smaller countertop appliances (such as handblenders) are now competing with the traditional stovetop as more and more people cook at home to save money.

Wine Coolers!
We all know that fridge space can be at a premium when you’ve got a large family. Our fridge is packed with delicious fruit and veg as well as every day necessities such as milk and a vast array of condiments.
And if you’re anything like me, during the summer months you never know who’s going to pop round so I always like to have a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge. Unfortunately – sometimes there’s not enough space!
Did you know that it takes up to 16 hours for a bottle of wine to chill in a fridge? And that time increases every time the fridge door is opened!
That’s why at Magnet we love wine coolers. Not only do they look great, but they mean you’ll never have to drink warm wine again!
If you’re planning a kitchen, make sure you get yourself this must-have kitchen appliance!
