First eco worktops in UK launched

ECO worktop

ECO worktops made from both recycled and eco-friendly natural materials are being launched in the UK exclusively by Magnet, in partnership with world-leading surfaces manufacturer, Cosentino.

The stylish and durable worktops are partly made from recycled consumer waste such as mirror, porcelain sinks, baths and

tiles, and from industrial waste such as ash from power plants and stone scrap from quarries and workshops.

These products are bound together using an eco-friendly resin made from corn oil to create beautiful composite worktops in 10 different colours and styles. The range of natural and neutral colours varies from black forest, iron ore through to bright white iridescent finishes and deeper speckled tops with green and light blue flecks.

Two hot trends for 2010 are natural looks and monochrome style. These worktops could be used to create either of these looks and their durability means they will look great in years to come.

All the raw materials used have high thermal, mechanical and chemical resistance, making them perfect for use in the kitchen. The worktops also have a very low porosity allowing a high stain resistance.

The products chosen for recycling are not easily or cannot be recycled in any other way and the innovative processes used to create ECO worktops mean that waste will not be left in landfill sites for years to come.

Bamboo worktops have been available at Magnet for a couple of years and this is such a prolific plant that it can also count as environmentally friendly, but this is the first time worktops such as these have been launched.

Has anyone heard of any other eco worktops?
