Kitchens have changed beyond belief over the last decade or so.
No longer are householders restricted by strict fixed ideas of what is and what isn’t passable in terms of kitchen design.
You can mix and match styles from different eras as you wish without having the design police knocking on your door accusing you of culinary design heresy.
Phew….that’s a relief. No-one we’ve met likes to be restrained by the tight lines of one-dimensional design.
Like you, we want to express ourselves as we see fit with our breakfast bars and kitchen cupboards. After all, we’re going to be spending an inordinate amount of time in our dream kitchen. If we want to mix shaker style cabinets with modernist smooth chrome lines then we want to do it with the a measure of abandon and freedom.
But, we must confess, we do love a bit of retro styling. And they’re bang on trend right now too.
Retro appliances and vintage furniture can recreate a nostalgic scene reminiscent of our favourite legendary TV diners or hark back to our childhood with a 60s ‘grandma-inspired’ theme. Fortunately, there’s plenty of choice when it comes to winding back the years in the kitchen these days too.
The 1950’s style of family diners with high contrast colour booths, metallic finishes, and the feeling of hanging out at the local rock ‘n’ roll cafe can easily be recreated in the kitchen in 2013.
We can wind back time, in a sense, to the 60s with pop art pieces featuring high contrast colours in our kitchen tiles, floors and furniture and even mix them with stainless steel appliances for a thoroughly on-trend kitchen.
And we’re only limited by our own imagination.
Some of the most beautiful and unique kitchens we’ve seen recently refuse to compromise – they mix and match from numerous different eras, combining retro elements from a host of bygone times to give a distinctly ‘now’ edge to the most used room in any family home.
And you don’t have to stop at the kitchen door either – try the mix and match of retro ideas throughout the home for a truly unique look.
